Hypnotherapy is very helpful for fertility issues when trying to conceive and in preparation of and during fertility treatment.

Stress and anxiety cause the sympathetic nervous system to release the hormones adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol into the body. Too much of these circulating hormones on a frequent basis, can make it more difficult to conceive. They affect other hormones such as eostrogen, progesterone and insulin and can inhibit the release of follicle stimulating hormone and leutenising hormone.

The Stress Response or the ‘fight or flight response’ is designed to be a quick response. When a threat passes, cortisol levels should fall when the parasympathetic nervous system, (the body's natural brake), lowers the stress response and moves the body back into a relaxed and restful state. However, during stressful times, if a perceived threat does not go away, perhaps due to worry and overthinking, cortisol levels do not fall and the stress response continues, putting the entire body, including the reproductive system at risk.


The primal, mammalian brain, or the limbic system is responsible for the fight or flight response. It works on an unconscious level and cannot differentiate between real or imagined situations. Worry, anxiety and negative thinking can all stimulate the stress response.


When we are relaxed the brain produces endorphins which can help to restore hormone balance, regulate the nervous system and promote a healthy immune system.
